Available Types of Dental Implants
Dental implants are one of the best ways to replace missing teeth. Our Northridge dentist can use them to support a single prosthetic tooth, dental crown, or several prosthetic teeth in the form of dental bridges or dentures. If you are a candidate for implants, our dentist will help you discover more about your options.
Most implants are made of titanium, a biocompatible metal with which the bone easily fuses. Endosteal implants are shaped much like natural tooth roots and are inserted into the jawbone. They are the most common type of implant. Subperiosteal is less commonly used. These implants are placed on top of the jawbone and are most appropriate in patients who have lost bone density, have small or narrow jawbones or who have certain other problems. Mini implants are also frequently recommended for patients who have reduced jawbone structure.
Single tooth and full mouth implants are also available. Both can be used with prosthetic teeth to restore the beauty, health and function of your smile. Individual implants are usually used with porcelain crowns while full-mouth and mini implants are often used with dentures or other restorations. We will work closely with you to determine the best implant solution for your needs and the right restoration for your short- and long-term smile goals.
