Candidates for Dental Implants
Dental implants are a healthy, lasting way to replace one or many missing teeth. They fit right into the jawbone just like the natural root, and they can be restored with porcelain crowns, dental bridges or dentures for a restoration that is as versatile as it is healthy.
Our Northridge dentist may recommend implants if you are missing one, several or all of your teeth. The best candidates are those with good general and dental health whose jaws have finished growing. This usually happens between mid and late adolescence for most people. They are an excellent alternative to removable bridges and eliminate the alteration of teeth that traditional dental bridges require.
At your consultation, we will explore your options and help you decide if you are a candidate for the implants procedure. You will need to complete a dental and health history and list any health conditions that you have or medications that you take. We also need to know if you smoke so that we can make safe, healthy recommendations for you.
Once your implants have been placed, taking care of them can help you heal more quickly. Brush and floss exactly as directed. If you have been prescribed pain medications, antibiotics or antimicrobial mouthwashes, use these as directed as well. You may need to eat soft foods for a few days and avoid chewing on that side to reduce the risk of damage to the area.
