Foods That Stain Teeth

Teeth can become stained in different ways, and sometimes the food you eat may be to blame. There are certain foods that are known for having the greatest chance of putting stains on your teeth that will definitely detract from your smile.

Coffee and tea, especially when consumed on a regular basis, can leave the teeth with permanent stains that will be very difficult, if not impossible, to remove. Drinking soda that is dark in color is also responsible for staining the teeth. Of course, the more these beverages are consumed, the worse the staining will become.

Other foods that are known for causing staining problems on the teeth are soy sauce, certain types of berries, such as blueberries, and curry. Red wine and fruit juices that are dark in color are also culprits. Acidic foods are responsible for opening up the pores of the teeth, thus allowing stains to penetrate more easily. Very hot and cold beverages can also have the same effect on the teeth by causing them to expand or contract, which will help stains to penetrate.

The best way to keep stains from forming on your teeth is to brush your teeth immediately after ingesting any foods or beverages that are known for causing a staining problem. But it may not always be possible to do this. Our cosmetic dentist in Northridge can help you with permanent staining problems by applying porcelain veneers to the surface of your teeth, which will completely cover the stains.
