Nutritional Supplements for Fighting Gum Disease
Nearly all of the foods and beverages that are ingested will leave residue on the teeth. When this residue is not cleared away with brushing, flossing, and regular professional dental cleaning, it will form plaque and tartar that will attack the teeth and gums. Periodontal disease is often the result of this situation, and that is why our Northridge dentist believes that all patients should understand just a few of the supplements that can be used to further prevent this common oral health issue.
Periodontal disease is initially characterized by an inflammation of the gums, tenderness, and a mild amount of bleeding. When left untreated, it can affect every part of the mouth ranging from one’s teeth to the structure of their jaws. There are a few vitamins that could reduce the chance of developing gum disease or minimize its affects. They include Vitamin C and Vitamin D. Tea tree oil has recently become a popular treatment for gingivitis as studies show that this natural compound will often reduce the side effectives of periodontal disease.
When this condition has progressed, all patients should contact our Northridge periodontist immediately. We understand just how uncomfortable and unsightly this condition can be, and that is why we employ only the most advanced techniques to restore the oral health of each of our patients. If you have recently noticed any amount of inflammation, tenderness, discoloration, or bleeding on your gums, contact our office to schedule your next appointment.
