Regular Oral HygieneRegular oral hygiene routine is necessary to help remove bacteria grown inside of the mouth each day. Daily brushing and flossing are helpful to remove food particles and any bacteria formed in the mouth after eating or during sleeping. The bacteria need to be removed to reduce the risk of cavity formation, tooth decay, and periodontal disease. Brushing at least twice per day, flossing and using mouth washes are just the first steps.

Most people learn oral hygiene routines at a young age. When these tips and techniques are learned properly, a person will perform these techniques daily throughout his or her life. On top of brushing and flossing, regular oral hygiene should also include routine dental checkups. During these checkups the areas of the teeth and gum line that cannot be reached with a toothbrush are cleaned. Specially designed dental tools are used by our Northridge dentist to remove bacteria and plaque that deteriorate the teeth.

A person that has dental work like dentures, bridges, crowns, or dental implants should continue with a regular oral hygiene schedule. Teeth are stained during the day due to consumption of different foods and drinks and these stains affect prior dental work as well. Also bacteria can grow between teeth and attach to the gum line causing infection. Learning to utilize regular oral hygiene is a big part of keeping teeth healthy and white. Proper brushing and flossing techniques should be performed to help decrease the risk of future dental problems that can be costly and damaging to the beauty of smile.
